How's everyone doing these days? I think we're going a little stir crazy over here. Between homeschooling our daughter, trying to get the gardens going, and all the business tasks on my plate I feel like I'm working harder now that we're all at home!
I have a confession. I'm a HUGE procrastinator. The more I have to do, the more I can find to distract myself. The latest distraction: my studio. I have a love-hate relationship with my studio. I love that it's in our basement - I can sew anytime I want and I'm not too far from the kitchen for a snack break. The problem is it's too small. I know it looks ok right now, but once I start to work on a batch of bags I'll have piles of fabric on most surfaces. And if an order happens to come in? Then I have to move everything around to make room to pack it up. It feels like I'm constantly organizing and reorganizing to make the space work.
The studio before...
Well, a couple weeks ago (with my to-do list a mile long) I decided that it was the perfect time to rearrange the studio (hello distraction!) and I love it! I know it's not a huge change, but it feels so much bigger!
The studio after!
More Locations to Shop Local
Like a lot of people, I've been busy making lots of face masks, and I'm pleased to announce that my masks are now available at the Coffee Shop in Cornwall, Ontario (820 Mcconnell Ave, # 112)! They have a selection of masks for adults and children, and designs for both men and women.
I'm also excited to announce that we are signed up with the new Prescott-Russel Marketplace, Shop Chez-Nous (www.pr.shopcheznous.ca). This new marketplace promotes local businesses in Glengarry and Prescott-Russel, making it easy for you to find local services, and to shop our local vendors all in one stop!
New Bags are Coming!
I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of some bag hardware so I can get started on a new project - Cross-Body bags are headed your way! Designed by the wildly talented Svetlana Sotak of Sotak Handmade, the design I've chosen is similar to our wristlet - it features a front zip pocket, a spacious main compartment with an inner zip pocket, and two slip pockets on the back.
I also have a new handbag design for you, designed by Namrata Shroff of Bagstock Designs - this design is much more tailored than than our other bags. It will feature buttery cork leather, a zipped pocket on the front, a spacious main compartment with a zipper closure, and a zipped inner pocket. Made with foam interlining, this bag will stand on it's own and has a simple elegance.
Father's Day is quickly approaching and I will have some new coin purses in the shop perfect for the men in your life! Also on the way is an awesome boxy toiletry bag, designed by Ellie Lum and made with waxed canvas.
I've got some great new fabrics and I can't WAIT to get started on these awesome new designs!
Take care and stay safe out there!

Do you ever look around and get bored of what you see? Every so often that is exactly what happens when I look around my sewing studio. Instead of getting excited to work on the tasks of the day I get bogged down with a sense of frustration and discouragement. My solution: rearrange the space to refresh the mind! This is something I've been doing for as long as I can remember and it's a great way to get my mind out of a funk.
Two weeks ago that was exactly what was called for - the flurry of craft shows and events was behind me and a list of custom orders and everyday business tasks were waiting to be tackled. And, of course, this was the exact moment my brain said "nope".
My studio is in our basement in a small room with only so many ways it can be arranged. The last time it was changed was last March, and I was pretty convinced that it was the best arrangement.
The metal office cabinet was a hand-me-down from my dad - he's had it since he started his business when I was 5, so although its quite large and cumbersome it has a special place in my heart and there's no way I can replace it.
After a bit of work, here's the end result!
In the end it wasn't a big change, but what a difference it made to the space! Not only does it feel bigger, but as soon as I was done I was ready to start ALL THE PROJECTS! Can't get any better motivation than that!
